OKAY so you already know what it looks like. But that doesn’t make the Kuga SUV any less exciting a product. Ford’s attempt to marry an SUV to a wagon and combine both genes to come up with a crossover seems to have worked.Showcased for the first time in Frankfurt auto show in September last year, the Kuga will be part of a three-model lineup that Ford has planned to unveil at the Geneva Motor Show int he first week of March.
The Kuga is a true blue crossover in that it offers both off-road as well as on-road abilities. It’s available with intelligent all wheel drive as well as front wheel drive options. And it’s powered by the 2 litre Duratorq TDCi 136 PS diesel engine. In terms of looks, the Kuga takes the cue from Ford’s successful iosis X concept which debuted nearly two years ago. That includes a coupe roof and contours that are different from its usual muscular SUV offerings.Ford officials have indicated that the Kuga will be an important model for the company to perk up sales and interest in Europe. At Geneva,it will rub shoulders with another crossover, the Renault Koleos which will also debut there and is expected to cater strictly to European sensibilities. Notable interior highlights of the Ford Kuga include the large panoramic glass roof and the new Blaupunkt navigation system with 7-inch colour display for the rear view camera on the tailgate. This are only two of the many interior amenities found on the new Ford Kuga. Based on the C-car platform that has spawned the CMax and the Focus along with the Mazda 3 and Volvo S40/C30,the Kuga will likely hit Europe this summer.WIll it come to India? Unlikely. But some of its design cues might. Ford will also showcase the three-door Fiesta and the Focus cabriolet at Geneva. While the Fiesta’s design cues are interesting, the Focus looks and feels pretty much the same.— Team AutoMania
