The new 2.8 FSI is no different, featuring one of the two new engines that Audi has made available in India.This 210bhp V6, loaded with the latest technology, is calm and quiet when you are pottering about your chores, but if your mood ever changes and you come across an open road there is always sport mode, a great example of the balance this car achieves.
This sense of balance extends itself to the styling too.The exterior of the car, which is now assembled in India, remains unchanged. The smooth lines provide excellent proportions - but if you want presence, the vast grille is difficult to beat.The 17-inch wheels look great too.
Inside, the A6 feels vast: the light colours really amplify the sense of space.There is plenty of leg and head room all around: Gandalf could fit, and maybe even leave his hat on.The controls, including the MMI, Audi's take on the vehicle-control system, are easy to find and very user-friendly in the most intuitive way possible.The only fussy bit is the gear selector, which does not lock into position as firmly as you'd like; as a result, you end up shifting back into D from manual mode mid-corner if your hands get a little sweaty or twitchy. It's best to select sport mode and watch the tacho needle jump to the red line before changing cogs and giving rise to brisk but damped acceleration.
It's good around corners too, especially if you put the car's adaptive air suspension to use. Select the 'Dynamic' set up and the active suspension lowers the car to within 118mm off the ground. Factor in the fat 245/50 rubber and there is acres of grip.The A6 is the ultimate compromise: the brilliant adaptive suspension can iron out every blemish on the road when set to 'Comfort' and even clear the biggest speed humps with ride height rising to 135mm in 'Lift.' And when you want to slip into sport mode, the Audi says, "right this way."
