The new Camry is flashy and has tons of presence. The upgraded 2.4-litre petrol unit produces 165 horsepower to lug this whale around and manages to do so in very refined manner.
The four speed automatic gearbox, however, is not overly enthusiastic to use while on the move.
The cabin is spacious enough for five adults with plenty of leg and shoulder room for three at the back. There is also a huge Beemer-like boot. The i-Pod-style treatment of the centre console looks different but nice. The steering wheel has some smartly placed controls for the music system and the aircon; honking can be a bit of a problem though dodging all those buttons.
It comes with all the goodies that you expect at this stage of the game including a 6-CD changer and dual-zone climate control. There is a nicely integrated multifunction display integrated into the dials.Traction control, ABS and six airbags are all part of the parcel. Ride quality is pretty good although the suspension does thud along at lower speeds. Body control is quite impressive and so are the grip levels from the 215/60 R16 rubber it comes with, but the steering is not as direct. The CBU tag makes it a tad too expensive for what it offers, although reliability is superb. Decent service backup is a boon and residuals are generally pretty good for Toyotas.
